This week! March 15-18. NO School Friday!

This week we will be wrapping up the quarter, but will still begin a new assignment here and there.

In Second Grade we will be learning to create an origami basket. If you look up origami on youtube you
can make all kinds of creations and it shows you how!

First Grade students will continue their watercolor pencil/shape designs and learn the properties of the
medium to it's full extent with the addition of water and brush!

Kindergarten students will find that while we didn't catch our Leprechaun, he left behind some interesting
dust. He must of vaporized...? Well if you add milk and shake it up you can "paint" with it AND it's tasty!

The Art II men are drawing with colored pencils...vehicles seem to be the item of choice this time around.

Morgan is finishing her portrait of a young man in charcoal pencil. It is a very odd perspective study and
it has made life interesting, as I was trying to "help" with the face...not sure, but I think I need some practice.
Doesn't help that the perspective is from (so it appears) lying down and at an angle shooting up at his face.
I hope you will come to either the Art Show or Fine Arts Concert and see it there!

Sandy is working on a variety of things...engagement photos of her sister, wedding invites and programs,
graduation announcements, etc. She also did a very interesting word collage in colored pencil, which was
inspired by a song she likes.

Jeff is building me a door for the Music Man set and finishing up his mixed media piece that is of an older
model car.

Phillip is working on the yearbook. We need senior pictures!! Then he can scan them and load them up to
yearbook avenue.

Heather is one of the yearbook editors and has a knack for details. I gave her the job of putting in the portrait
pages. She is a stickler for accuracy, so I know they will be correct and complete when she is done!

My Photography students are working on a new assignment involving the use of a lot of Photoshop adjustments,
filters, effects and layer styles. In the end we will have some very interesting photos! 8 total for each student.

The Graphic Design I class will be starting a project based on works done by Charles DeMuth and Jasper Johns.
The subject is Typography (the study of type/fonts). We will be doing a more hands on piece, which may keep
everyone busy at once. Without everyone having their own computer, it becomes difficult to keep track of who is
done with what and who's "turn" it is at the computers we have with Photoshop.

We will be working on the Music Man set also when we have a free moment. That show will be Friday March 26th
at 7pm at the Middle School in Terril.

This week we will have Parent Teacher Conferences both Tues. and Thurs. evenings. If you are in the building, please stop out and visit me. It gets lonely sitting in my classroom for 4 hours! (Don't get me wrong, I always have plenty I can be doing...it's just that I enjoy visiting with parents and sharing the talents of my students with them!)

If you are looking for entertainment, my daughter's Drill Team is hosting an Invitational Showcase in the ELC gym on Saturday night at 7 PM. The G/T Dance team will be performing, and Callie Herke will dance her solo one more time! The theme is "Welcome to the Jungle" and will be quite an event...please join us if you can!

Last...I would really like to have a kiln so we can do pottery here at G/T again. If anyone would like to donate funds toward that endeavor or has ideas for how I could easily obtain one, please contact me. I am asked by students constantly if we will be getting one, and I just shake my head and sigh...sorry, kids.
